It is past time to create a state electoral system to vote for governor!
Elections in Washington State have become one-sided because population distribution has long since silenced the voices of those living outside the boundaries of our major cities.
This diminishment of the voices and votes of rural and suburban voters has caused important issues, lifestyles, and livlihoods to suffer because of ignorance or mis-understanding of the voting majority about what problems are faced by those who are not their neighbors, but perform many of the activities they unwittingly dismiss but depend upon.
HB 1114 sponsored by Representatives Klippert and Graham, is a solution to a problem they well know, and have seen examples of in their own districts, and have heard from their constituents. A plethora of other districts have similar complaints, they are not represented by the governor, and he has little understanding or concern for what their needs from state government are or would be.
Read the text of this elegantly simple bill: http://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/biennium/2021-22/Pdf/Bills/House%20Bills/1014.pdf?q=20210128114513
What is provided, should the bill pass, is "AN ACT Relating to election of the governor by county" or put in other words for the purposes of electing a governor, a state electoral system providing a more representative method of electing an individual to that position.
Proving the need for the bill, under the majority party in the legislature, the bill has been given a first reading but has since languished without attention.
If you find in your opinion the bill would fill an essential need for your representation in Olympia and would promote the recognition and significance of your district's votes, this bill should be moved through the legislative process for a vote on the floor. Call your representatives and senators, the sponsors of this bill, and the leadership of the House, email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org and encourage them to put this bill to a vote on the floor!
